King’s Field skate park - £90,000
Kings Field skatepark is the only skate, BMX, in-line skate facility in Richmond upon Thames. It is extremely well used and attracts over 12,000 young people every year. The new KCafé project next to the skate park also offers youth sessions, youth employment (at the café) and assists in the organisation of regular competitions and trips to other skate facilities and a yearly residential, ‘the skate and surf safari’. There is also a new mobile ramp facility that will offer young skaters employment as skate or BMX tutors at local youth clubs and schools and in local parks.
Plans for world class concrete bowl and street scene skate park have been developed and are supported by the borough parks (who have promised £30,000 to the project). This is required as the current ramps are coming to the end of their lives and are increasingly dangerous. If funding is secured the park reconstruction will be completed by May 2010. In addition to skate activities, KCafé will offer a range of other activities to young people using the site. To complete this rebuild we are seeking £120,000 from the current youth capital strategy to develop a world class skate park. Please, vote King’s Field!
